Sheffield Health Technologies sector to ‘Ascend’ with fully-funded training programme

Health Technology companies based in the Sheffield City Region have received a boost with the launch of a new fully funded training programme aimed at business growth.
The training programme – Ascend – will be delivered by Medilink Yorkshire & Humber and will focus on two key areas identified by companies in the sector as obvious skills gaps – Innovation and UK Market Access.
The two qualifications available to learners will take place in four cohorts across the year, starting in September, and are open to all staff from SMEs in the Sheffield City Region operating in the healthcare sector.
The identification of the skills gaps was driven by the Sheffield City Region LEP Health Tech Sector Steering Group – a group made of company leaders and other leading stakeholders from the region. The training programme was then developed by Medilink Yorkshire & Humber, who will be delivering in partnership with skills agency, Ingeus, and co-financed by the European Social Fund and Skills Funding Agency.
Jason Brannan, Medilink Yorkshire & Humber, PR & Communications Director, said: “We worked very closely with businesses across the Sheffield City Region to develop a skills programme that has the potential to have an immediate effect on a businesses’ bottom line – and Ascend is designed to do exactly that.
“Not only will the skills implemented be of value to the businesses, they will also benefit the leaners and their personal development.”
The UK Market Access Certificate will focus on areas such as public relations, marketing and social media, with the Innovation Certificate exploring processes including innovation approaches, concept development and opportunity identification.
Mr Brannan continues: “An important part of the training programme will also be our facilitating of networking sessions to encourage like-minded individuals and companies from the sector to explore joint-working and other business opportunities.
“The whole programme is designed around rapid progression – for learners, businesses and the sector as a whole – and we’re now looking forward to meeting our first cohort in September.”
